Preserving the Heritage
I was born in a traditional family. Growing up, my parents would let my siblings and I watch Indian TV shows every weekend. Whenever we’re at home, they don’t allow us to talk in English. We were to speak Hindu when we talk to them. We thought this was a normal occurrence until we went to a public school where we met friends who have Indian parents like us. When they invite me over to their house, their parents were already westernized and they talk in English all the time. I asked my parents about this and told them that this has been confusing me. So they explained to me that they never allowed us to speak English at home or allow us to watch too much English shows is that they wanted us to appreciate the culture of our heritage. They have seen how other Indian families embraced Western culture and forgot their own.
